Related started exclusively as an affordable housing developer in 1972 and today is one of the largest developers and preservationists of affordable and workforce housing in the country. Currently, we own and manage 55,000 affordable and workforce housing apartment homes and are proud to have never converted a single unit of affordable housing to market rate.

Related Midwest and The Related Affordable Foundation partnered with KABOOM, a nonprofit organization focused on ending playspace inequity, to create a kid-designed playspace at Related's affordable property, Southern Hills, offering families a safe and dynamic place to play.

Art on Sedgwick, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering creativity and connecting the Old Town neighborhood and community through the power of art, is located in a retail space of our Marshall Field Garden Apartments community. Art on Sedgwick helps to foster arts related programming between residents at Marshall Field and the broader surrounding neighborhood.

Situated between the Bucktown and Roscoe Village neighborhoods, Lathrop Homes is a 34-acre mixed-income community bordered by the Chicago River.

Roosevelt Square

Roosevelt Square is a multi-phase, mixed-income development that will ultimately bring residences, retail and green and open space to Chicago's Near West Side.

Marshall Field Garden Apartment Homes

Originally constructed in 1929 by the Marshall Field Estate, Marshall Field Garden Apartment Homes is located in the Old Town neighborhood of Chicago and consists of 628 apartments all designated for families.

Campbell Terrace

Located in Logan Square on Chicago’s northwest side, this 249-unit, 12-story apartment building offers Section 8, Senior and adaptable affordable apartments.

Taylor Street Apartments & Little Italy Branch Library

Taylor Street Apartments and Little Italy Branch Library is a mixed-use development that features one of the city’s first co-located Chicago Housing Authority and Public Library branches.

Universal City Apartments

Located in Chicago, Universal City Apartments is a unique 160-unit property that has provided affordable housing for elderly and low-income families for over 20 years.

Southern Hills Orlando

Located at the northwest side of Decatur, Southern Hills Orlando is a 125-unit apartment complex comprising 28 buildings situated on 10 acres of beautifully landscaped land.

Parkway Gardens

Parkway Gardens is an affordable housing community that hundreds of families call home in Chicago’s Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.

Related Affordable Foundation College Scholarship

We congratulate Kemarion Bryant, longtime resident of Related Affordable property, Parkway Gardens, on receiving the Related Affordable Foundation college scholarship. Kemarion will be attending Northern Illinois University this fall, majoring in performing arts. Related Affordable Foundation’s Scholarship program invites high school seniors who reside at Related Affordable properties to apply for scholarships to support their pursuit of higher education at trade and technical schools, colleges, and universities.

Mentoring our future leaders

Supported by the Related Affordable Foundation, Focus Fairies Mentoring is dedicated to empowering young girls to be effective leaders, caring citizens and servants to their communities. The organization hosts weekly workshops and community service activities, which take place in the community room of the Marshall Field Garden Apartment Homes.

Building the next generation

Lifelong resident of Marshall Field Garden Apartment Homes Alexis Shannon has seen how her community has positively changed over the last 20 years. The community center offers many computers, a room for smaller children and a library. Scholarships to private schools are also available to a certain number of families each year, preparing kids for high school and their futures.
