Related Midwest has long been a champion of affordable housing in Chicago and throughout the Midwest, and one team member leading that charge is Michael Kaplan, Vice President, Affordable Housing. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, as Crain’s Chicago Business recently named him to this year’s prestigious “40 Under 40” list.
Michael has spearheaded several transformative projects in the region throughout his career. One of the most notable is the redevelopment of Roosevelt Square on Chicago’s West Side, where over 200 new mixed-income units are under construction, with plans for nearly 1,200 more. He was instrumental in bringing community and cultural assets to the neighborhood, including the award-winning Taylor Street Apartments and Little Italy Chicago Public Library Branch, as well as the National Public Housing Museum.
The Crain’s recognition also stemmed from Michael’s contributions outside of his work at Related Midwest. He sits on the Board of Directors for the Cook County Land Bank Authority, chairing its Finance Committee and contributing to the Land Transaction Committee, and has served on the City of Chicago Department of Housing’s Steering Committee, advising on its five-year strategic plan.
