Related Midwest Communities Host Back to School Events

As summer winds down and days get shorter, Chicago students and their families are gearing up for the new school year ahead. Related Management Company hosted Back to School Community events at two Related Midwest communities, Northpoint Apartments and Lathrop, to help families kick off the fall semester. The Back to School events connected residents and featured helpful resources, fun activities and a school supply giveaway.

At Northpoint Apartments, an affordable community in Rogers Park, residents gathered in the community room to enjoy lunch and speak with a variety of neighborhood and citywide partners. Swedish Hospital was on site to connect families with free healthcare resources, and representatives from Rush University Medical Center also attended to provide essential vaccinations. Additionally, ChiGivesBack expanded their #Teach2Give program to distribute backpacks and school supplies with support from the Related Affordable Foundation.

At Lathrop, a mixed-income community on Chicago’s north side, residents and the community gathered on the property’s expansive Great Lawn for a fun event. Youth enjoyed yard games and arts and crafts, while senior residents connected over bingo. Lathrop partnered with local organizations such as Gantz Boys & Girls Club, New West Side Family Works and the 19th District Police Department to share resources. Other highlights included Canines for Kindness presenting their “Midnight Circus” dog show, and Lathrop’s on-site woodworking shop, Bluestem Restoration, leading a workshop. All attendees were treated to lunch and live music from DJ Selah Say, a well-known DJ and Lathrop resident. Two hundred students again left with new backpacks filled with school supplies for the school year.

Related Midwest wishes all our youth residents a great start to the school year!
