Reflecting its ongoing commitment to workforce development and community engagement, Related Midwest teamed up with longtime partner After School Matters (ASM) to host an interactive workshop for area youth. Hosted at the company’s office, the session aimed to spark curiosity about career paths that often go unseen and to show teens from ASM’s Mosaic to Shine program that these opportunities are both attainable and rewarding.
During the workshop, teens learned about the wide range of careers that contribute to bringing projects from concept to completion — from design and construction to project management and operations. Related Midwest staff shared insights into their own career journeys, answering the teens’ questions and offering real-world examples of how different skill sets and interests can translate into meaningful work.
For many years, Related Midwest and Related Affordable Foundation have proudly supported ASM’s mission to empower Chicago public high school students through creative, skill-building opportunities beyond the classroom. Last year, that commitment came to life with the unveiling of a new public mural at South Shore on The Park, an affordable housing community in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood owned and managed by Related. Created by local teens who participate in ASM programming, the mural reflects themes of unity, resilience and support. Additionally, Related Midwest President Curt Bailey serves as president of ASM’s Board of Directors while Associate DuWarren Gibson and Assistant Project Manager Hiram Torres serve on the ASM Associate Board.
Related Midwest was honored to host the teens and once again collaborate with ASM to give students a firsthand look at sustainable career opportunities in real estate. Workshops like this showcase the power of partnership in inspiring the next generation.
