On November 4th, Related Midwest, along with LR Contracting Company and BOWA Construction, celebrated breaking ground on 900 Randolph in Chicago's Fulton Market neighborhood. When complete, the mixed-use 43-story building will make history as the city's first high-rise project with an African-American Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) co-leading construction. With a goal to build in diverse communities that represent Chicago, BOWA Construction considers civic engagement as an important part of each project that the firm takes on. “BOWA is thrilled to partner with Related Midwest and LR Contracting on a project that will make history in Chicago while creating jobs and opportunities for the city’s residents,” said Nosa Ehimwenman, president and CEO of BOWA. Additionally, 32% of 900 Randolph's sub-contracting work will be completed by minority-owned businesses and 9% will be completed by women-owned businesses. 900 Randolph will be designed by Morris Adjmi Architects—Related Midwest's third collaboration with the firm—serving as a notable new architectural addition to Chicago. The building's exterior evokes structural expressionism, a style associated with the city's history, and designed to help it blend in with the surrounding neighborhood. The 547,000-square-foot skyscraper will introduce 300 residences to Restaurant Row ranging from studios to 3-bedrooms, with 20 percent of the units to be designated as affordable. The project is slated to be completed in 2024 with Related Rentals acting as the management company, providing residents a range of convenient services and amenities.
